2 minors among 7 held for vandalising police booth in T Nagar

CHENNAI: Teynampet Police on Sunday arrested seven persons, including two minor boys, in connection with the vandalisation of a traffic police booth in T Nagar during the early hours of Saturday.

Police sources said that the gang had come in an autorickshaw and had attempted to steal construction materials meant for Storm water drain (SWD) works near GN Chetty road.

When the supervisor, A Loganathan attempted to stop them, they attacked him and his co-workers and inflicted injuries. The gang then hurled stones and damaged windows and glass doors of a traffic police booth nearby before escaping.

Police reached the scene and moved the injured worker to a hospital. Based on CCTV footage, police launched a hunt for the suspects and on Sunday arrested R Murugan (48) of Giriappa road, T Nagar, Vignesh (18), Babu (35), Sakthivel (28), Janakiraman (45) and two minor boys for the vandal act.

The five men were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. The minor boys were admitted to an observation home for boys.
