2 killed, 2 injured as tractor falls into pit

Two men died and two others, including a juvenile, sustained injuries after a tractor fell into an 8-foot-deep pit and turned turtle near Maduranthakam on Saturday.

The incident happened in the afternoon when the victims, agricultural labourers, were returning home after work in the field near Neelamanglam village. When they were crossing the Neelamangalam lake via the lakebed, the tractor suddenly ran amok and fell into an adjacent pit. Passersby, who noticed the accident, rescued the victims and alerted the 108 ambulance. The crew reached the spot and declared Mahavishnu (20) and Naveen (20) dead. The two others, Govindhan (13) and Harish, were rushed to the hospital and admitted. Anaikattu police registered a case and sent the bodies to Maduranthakam government hospital for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is on.
