Within two days after his wife’s suicide, a man killed himself in Chromepet on Saturday night. The couple married only in May after a love affair.

The deceased were identified as Pravin Kumar, 22, and Deepika, 19. Police said Pravin Kumar alias Prasanth, a resident of Mariyamman Koil Street, Pallavaram was working as a security guard and was in love with Deepika for last two years.

Despite opposition from both the families and the COVID-19 lockdown curbs, the two got married on May 8. After Aadi month started, Pravin Kumar had dropped Deepika at her parents’ place in Pallavaram on July 20. As she stayed there for 10 days, on July 30, Deepika killed self by hanging.

Because she had died in such a short time after the marriage, an RDO enquiry has been ordered into her suicide, police said. Meanwhile, Pravin hanged self in a friend’s house in Chromepet on Sunday morning.

Police said he was supposed to appear before RDO on Monday for an enquiry in connection with the suicide of his wife.
