19 held for snatchings and robberies in police crackdown across city

A day after three robberies and attempts by the same gang were reported in Triplicane police district, police cracked down on anti-socials and arrested as many as 18 men.

As many as 14 stolen mobile phones, three snatched gold chains, cash, eight two-wheelers and machetes were seized from the accused. Special teams were formed after robbery incidents were reported in Mylapore, Teynampet, Nungambakkam, Royapettah, Chintradripet, Royapuram and Tondiarpet. Seven men were arrested in Tondiarpet, while Basin Bridge police arrested six men in connection with the robbery of Rs 2 lakh from a businessman. Investigation revealed that they followed the victim from Muthialpet before robbing him under the Basin Bridge flyover. Meanwhile, Pattabiram police arrested six men for robbing a man who supplies home appliances at the doorstep of his two mobile phones and Rs 35,000 in cash.
