Irked by Pocso case against brother, man attacks minor survivor in Korukkupet

CHENNAI: A 17-year-old girl, a survivor of sexual violence, was allegedly attacked by two persons including the brother of the accused for filing a police complaint, in Korukkupet on Thursday night.

Police said that the men allegedly slashed her with a blade after assaulting her. Police said that the survivor and the accused are related.

Around 10 pm on Thursday, the girl was walking along the street when two men allegedly waylaid her and attacked her. Hearing her screams, passers-by rushed to her aid and saved her. She was then moved to the Government Stanley Hospital where she is under treatment, police said. RK Nagar police initiated an inquiry and have detained one of the suspects.

A probe revealed that from October 2024 to March 2025, the minor girl was forcibly confined in the house of her 35-year-old married cousin who sexually assaulted her for several months. The Washermenpet All Women Police arrested the man under the Pocso Act and remanded him in judicial custody.

While the key suspect who attacked the girl is absconding, the man who accompanied him has been detained by the RK Nagar police.
