16 detained for overspeeding on Sardar Patel Road

As many as 16 youngsters, who were allegedly involved in bike racing at Adyar, have been detained by the police in Besant Nagar. The Sastri Nagar police have seized eight bikes and are questioning them.

The crackdown came after the city police decided to act tough on the bikers who tend to overspeed. The police nabbed them after browsing CCTV footages on Sardar Patel Road and Besant Nagar from last Saturday.


The police identified the detainees as Arun (18), Santhosh Kumar (18), Tamilarasan (18), Sai (19), Joshi (19), Joshuva (19), Rajkumar (18 all residents of Perambur, Manikandan (24), Vasanth (22), Santosh (20) all residents of Ayanavaram, Bharath (19), Prashant (18) from Vyasarapadi, Bhuvanesh (19) from Kolathur, Saran (19), Praveen Kumar (18) from Washermanpet and Sarath Kumar (20) from Mattur.


The police noted that an FIR has been lodged and further investigations are on. Officials added that most of the bikes seized are in the category of 150 cc and above and all the seized vehicles will be produced before a court.
