Following the warrant of appointments issued for these 15 judges on September 28 by the President of India and the notification by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, nine lawyers of the High Court-V Parthiban, R, Subramanian, M Govindaraj, M Sundar, R Suresh Kumar, J Nisha Banu, M S Ramesh, S M Subramanian and Anita Sumanth were sworn in. Similarly, six persons from the lower judiciary -A M Basheer Ahmed, T Ravindran, S Baskaran, P Vemurugan, G Jayachandran and C V Karthikeyan were also sworn-in.
At a simple swearing in ceremony, which transpired at the New Auditorium, in the high court premises, the newly appointed judges presented brief speeches.
Interestingly, one of the newly sworn in judge S M Subramaniam also presented a copy declaring his assets to the Chief Justice after concluding his speech.
Earlier, Advocate General R Muthukumaraswamy who offered felicitations, pointed out that this is second such occasion when 15 judges were being sworn-in to this High Court. Madras High Court Advocates Association president, R C Paul Kanagaraj and other bar association presidents offered felicitations.
Following the swearing in, the newly appointed judges commenced their sitting at 2.15 pm at their respective courts.
With the number of judges inching towards the sanctioned strength it is hoped that the pendency of cases would come down considerably.
Also, the Chief Justice in an impromptu chat with the media after the swearing in, said “the appointment of other judges to reach the sanctioned strength is on the pipeline.”
