“Construction works of garden waste recycling plants are going on at five places in the city with a capacity of 100 tonnes per day. The recycling plants would process 500 tonnes per day. Also, works are underway near Nandambakkam to process coconut husks,” the statement said.

The civic body is collecting around 3,200 tonnes of garbage every day from the city streets. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, the city was generating an average of 5,200 tonnes of garbage every day

The civic body also has floated tenders recently to construct bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) plants in Koyambedu, Otteri, and Madhavaram with a capacity of 100 tonnes per day. The proposed plants would process the wet waste generated in the city.

Also, separate tenders have been floated to construct scientific incineration plants to process recyclable dry waste at Pallikaranai, Mylapore, Ambattur, Ayanavaram and Sathangadu with 100 tonnes per day.
