The Shankar Nagar police, who were on patrol, noticed a few men loading rice bags in a lorry and two minivans. After they gave evasive replies, the police checked the load and found that the rice was meant to be distributed through PDS shops. They seized the vehicles and detained all 10. During the inquiry, they found the group had purchased the rice from a few ration shops in Chennai for a low price and was planning to smuggle it to Andhra Pradesh. The police registered a case and seized over 350 bags of rice. Further investigation is on to trace the shops which sold the rice to them.
