CHENNAI: Much to the disappointment of cinephiles and fans, Vijay's farewell film, Jana Nayagan's release was halted due to censorship issues. As the festive window was open, producer Kalaippuli S Thanu announced that Theri will re-release in theatres on January 15. However, now that has also been postponed. The producer wrote, "As per the request from the producers of upcoming releases, we have decided to postpone the release of Theri."
After the delay of Jana Nayagan's release, other films like Jiiva's Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil, Karthi-starrer Vaa Vaathiyaar, Draupathi 2 and Server Sundaram locked their releases on Pongal.
Helmed by Atlee and his first collaboration with Vijay, the film featured Samantha as the leading lady. The star cast included Amy Jackson, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Nainika, Mahendran, Prabhu, Mottai Rajendran and many others, in key roles.
