CHENNAI: Actor Ajith Kumar and director Venkat Prabhu's 2011 blockbuster Mankatha re-released on Friday to much anticipation and celebration by the actor's fans and admirers of the movie. Videos of fans celebrating the re-release of Ajith's 50th film have been trending across social media. Despite many new releases, the movie has opened big.

Venkat Prabhu, Premgi Amaren spotted in theatres

Director Venkat Prabhu and the cast, including Premgi Amaren, Vaibhav and Mahat Raghavendra, were spotted at Kamala Cinemas. The director has been hyping up the re-release through his social media handles. "It’s time to re-live Mankatha from today!! Please don’t reveal the climax and spoil the experience!" he wrote, sharing a picture with actors Ajith Kumar and Vijay from the shoot days.

Talking to the media, actor Vaibhav said it was a moment of joy to be part of Ajith's 50th venture. "We are here to watch our AK sir on screen. We want to see the bike scene again," said Vaibhav. He added that he wants to celebrate the film with fans. Good Bad Ugly director Adhik Ravichandran caught the movie on screen with Ajith's manager Suresh Chandra.

Mankatha had an ensemble cast of Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Raai Laxmi, and Premgi Amaren with music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film centres around Ajith's character Vinayak Mahadev, one of the most cherished characters in Tamil cinema. A suspended cop, he goes on to plan a cricket betting heist with a group of small-time criminals.
