Ponniyin Selvan-1 tops the all-time BO collection in TN

The first part of the Ponniyin Selvan franchise alone will be one among the top 15 Indian films of all time in terms of box-office collection.

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan-1 has broken several box-office records and the latest is that the movie has gone on to become the highest grossing Tamil movies of all time. On Thursday, the film has raked in Rs 440 crore gross at the worldwide box-office while the figure stands at Rs 190 crore only in Tamil Nadu. It was Kamal Haasan’s Vikram that was the highest grosser with Rs 175 crore. Tinseltown sources told DT Next, “The film will have a strong theatrical run until Deepavali and will easily earn around Rs 220 crore in the state while it would have crossed a little over Rs 500 crore mark at the worldwide box-office. The first part of the Ponniyin Selvan franchise alone will be one among the top 15 Indian films of all time in terms of box-office collection.”

Produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies, Ponniyin Selvan-1 released worldwide on September 30 and opened to positive response. The movie has Vikram. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam ravi and Trisha Krishnan in lead roles. AR Rahman has composed the music while Ravi Varman has operated the camera. National-award winner Thotta Tharani is the art director and Brindha is the in charge of dance choreography. The second part of the franchise will release in the summer of 2023.
