“It was only Parvati, who fit the bill. I wanted a young actress, who could carry the role perfectly and I couldn’t think beyond her,” director Thamarai Selvam told DT Next.

On making his debut with a horror film, he said, “Horror films over the years have been synonymous with fantasy. Rubam isn’t a horror-thriller that will be clichéd with supernatural and fantasy elements. However, this film will have elements that are close to reality and will provide the audience with enough thrills.”

The film will go on floors in January 2021 and will mark the debut of Bollywood actor Freddy Daruwala in Tamil. “It will be completely shot in Chennai and we have planned it for 35 days. Music will be one of the crucial factors in this narrative. So, we have roped in Ghibran to compose tunes,” Thamarai Selvam revealed. The film’s stunts will be helmed by Peter Hein and Gopi of Raatchasan fame is the art director for Rubam.
