‘None came forward to fund my film’: Director K Surendar

When K Surendar started filming his movie, Maayabimbum, he decided to bankroll it himself as he couldn’t find a producer. However, after months of hardship, the debut director has finally found a distributor for his flick.

Speaking to DT Next about the struggles he faced, Surendar says, “I produced Maayabimbum with the help of my family and friends. Later, I showed the movie to director Lingusamy sir, and his brother Subash Chandrabose. They liked it and made me get in touch with the company Masterpiece who agreed to distribute my film.” Surendar informs that the entire cast and crew of Maayabimbum are new to the industry.

“When I showed it to members from the movie fraternity, they loved it and were pleased with the work done by the cast,” he says and notes that the movie was shot across Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Chidambaram and took over seven months to make. “It is a family-driven story with themes on love and friendship. Also, the female lead has a powerful role and I feel people will love to watch the character on screen,” the director concludes.
