After its success, director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Karthi told the media that plans were on for a sequel. Latest speculations are that the duo will start the pre-production work once the lockdown eases. According to reports, the decision is said to have come as other projects of the actor and director, respectively, are temporarily on hold owing to the pandemic. Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan team, which has Karthi as one of the lead characters, are unable to film as the movie involves largescale production which can only be done once the lockdown ends.

Likewise, we had reported that Siva’s Annaatthe starring superstar Rajinikanth will have its shooting resumed later this year and its release has been put off to next summer. Also, Lokesh's next project with Rajini is reported to take some time to go on floors. Hence, it is speculated that Karthi and Lokesh will work on Kaithi sequel in the meantime. More updates regarding the cast and crew are expected to be announced by the team soon.
