Karagattakaran to get a sequel after 30 years

Karagattakaran, a 1989 cult classic, which featured Ramarajan and Kanaka in the lead, is still remembered for its unique content and comedy sequences. Directed by Gangai Amaran, the film became a huge hit at the box office and created a history in collection.

Now, after almost 30 years, it looks like the makers of the film have decided to come up with a sequel and they are already in the process of finalising suitable leads. Gangai Amaran, too, confirmed that the sequel is on the cards. “The sequel will also feature Ramarajan and Kanaka in pivotal roles. The story revolves around the life of their children and the makers are already in talks with some of the leading actors in the industry,” said a source close to him. Though the music of Karagattakaran was composed by Ilaiyaraja, it is not sure whether he will work on the film’s sequel. “Since Gangai Amaren and Ilaiyaraja are not in good terms, the latter might not compose music for the film,” the source adds. Songs like Mundhi Mundhi, Maankuyilae and Indha Maan from Karagattakaran still top the list of music lovers.
