CHENNAI: Chennai Art Theatre is organising a special show ‘Stories of the Mountains’ in the city, featuring handpan artist Leya and lights by B Charles. The performance aims to narrate a story through the soulful melodies emanating from the handpan.

Speaking to DT Next about the event Charles says, “We have been promoting other art forms through the years and introducing people to other niches in dance, music and so on. For us, it’s also about staging forms beyond theatre. In regard to this performance, we wanted to stage something passionate and touching. It is known that the handpan has healing properties and we wanted to combine this aspect with art.”

He says that the performance by Leya will replicate the sounds of nature. The lights handled by Charles will aim to enhance and translate the emotions of the tunes through light.

Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring their instruments along with them. “At the show’s end, we will have a small jam session and explore how versatile the handpan actually is,” he smiles.

The show is on September 16 at Medai from 6 pm onwards. Tickets available on BookMyShow.
