Documentary on Kiran Bedi’s life to be screened

The Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Dr Kiran Bedi, was also the first woman to enter the Indian Police Service. Documentary film, Yes Madam, Sir (2008), by filmmaker Megan Doneman recounts the life of the Ramon Magsaysay Award winner as the country’s first female police officer and a revolutionary.

The film will be screened by Cinema Rendezvous, a film club in Chennai, on March 14 at 2 pm at the NFDC Tagore Film Centre. The film screening will be followed by a discussion with Bedi herself. 


The documentary traces Bedi’s efforts in introducing a prison reform in the country during her time as the Inspector General of Prisons at the Tihar Jail, one of the largest prison complexes in South Asia. The film includes narration of Bedi’s life story by Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren. It was screened and selected officially for severalinternational film festivals.
