Vijay Sethupathi quits '800'

Muralidharan released a statement saying that a promising career of a talented actor like Vijay Sethupathi should not be stifled because of misconstructions around him. So that he had requested the actor depart from the project.

After Muttiah Muralidharan had requested to Vijay Sethupathi to leave his biopic project '800', the actor did so.

Sethupathi was derided by many for playing the role of Muttiah Muralidharan who allegedly slighted the Eelam liberation of Tamils and condoned Sri Lankan army's alleged genocide of the ethnic minority Tamils of Sri Lanka.

Condemnation came from all quarters, from literature and the film fraternity had dissuaded Vijay Sethupathi from playing the role and hurt sentiments of Tamil people.

Muralidharan released a statement saying that a promising career of a talented actor like Vijay Sethupathi should not be stifled because of misconstructions around him. So that he had requested the actor depart from the project.

Vijay Sethupathi made the announcement on his twitter handle.

The film directed by Sripathi Rangasamy was clarified to be purely apolitical by the crew and says it purely focusses on spin wizard Muralidharan's struggle to reach the pinnacle in the war-torn nation.

Muttiah Muralidharan had said that his efforts will continue to make a biopic of his life.
