One-sixth of deaths in the world is caused by Cancer, according to the World Health Organization.  No complete cure has yet been found to cure cancer. We would have come across a number of forward messages in Whatsapp and facebook that suggests home medicines for killing cancer cells. However, we do not enquire about the accuracy of any of those messages. A recent post that has become viral in the internet since May claims that, ‘Drinking hot coconut water kills cancer causing cells’.

The circulated message was attributed to Dr. Rajendra Badwe, a notorious oncologist and Director of Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai. According to the post, mixing coconut flakes in hot water, and then drinking the filtered coconut-mixed water would kill cancer cells.

On verifying the authenticity of this information from the doctor itself, it was revealed that the message that spread viral was false. He denied sharing any such information. He affirmed that hot coconut water do not kill cancer cells.

False news has always been a hitch to the pathway of knowing the actual facts. When it comes to the arena of health and medicine, false informations pose a great threat to its believers who tend to follow it and become an inevitable victim.
