Woman kills two-month-old girl for second marriage

A woman, along with her parents and a relative, has been arrested for strangulating a two-month-old girl for a second marriage in Thanjavur.

Ganesan (35) of Nagapattinam, came to Thanajvur for work three years back and married Fairose Banu (28). The couple were residing at Thirupalathurai with their two children Mahalakshmi (2) and Kamar Nisha (two months). Meanwhile, Ganesh went to Mayiladuthurai to see his ailing mother who was injured in an accident and hospitalised.

On March 1, Banu contacted Ganesh and reportedly told him that Kamar Nisha died all of a sudden. Ganesh grew suspicious and lodged a complaint with the Papanasam police over the death of the baby. During interrogations, the woman confessed to having killed the baby   as it was hindrance to her second marriage.

The security detail at the Vellore Collector’s office foiled a self-immolation bid by a woman with her three kids as her husband being a cross-dresser. Police said, Jayanthi (35), wife of Kumaran of Melmonavoor, came to the collectorate with her three children, including two girls on Tuesday. Suddenly, the woman pulled out a can of kerosene which she had hidden and poured it on her three children and herself. The police moved in swiftly, plucked the can from her hands and doused all four with water.
