Woman gagged at knifepoint, robbed of gold

The police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly gagged a woman and snatched her 5 sovereign gold chain at her house in Peravallur, near Perambur, on Thursday night.

The masked man gagged Divya (25) and snatched her chain inside her third-floor apartment located on 5th circular street in Jawahar Nagar around 11 pm. The police said that the woman’s husband, Ganesh, had gone to watch a movie with his friends when the incident took place. The woman answered the doorbell thinking that it would be her husband. But the robber barged in and attacked her with a knife before snatching her chain. The intruder stuffed cloth in her mouth before escaping with the gold chain, the police noted.


Divya’s mother, who rushed to the front room, saw her struggling and called the police control room after helping her.


“When she heard doorbell around the same time her husband was expected, she opened the door to find a masked man threatening her at knifepoint. He robbed her five-sovereign chain and escaped,”the police said.


Based on a compliant, a case has been registered at the Peravallur police station.


In another incident, Kamakshi (75), a resident of Balakrishnan street in Mylapore was standing in front of her house on Friday morning when a bike-borne man snatched her five-sovereign chain and escaped. The police are browsing through the CCTV footage from the area to find clues.
