Wild elephant attacks van, car in Nilgiris

The elephant also targeted a car by attempting to turn it upside down. It then retreated into the forest area.

COIMBATORE: Panic moments prevailed as a wild elephant damaged a van and a car on the Kotagiri-Mettupalayam Ghat Road in The Nilgiris on Wednesday night.

Around 20 persons were returning to Kotagiri from Mettupalayam after attending a condolence event in a tourist van, driven by Vellaiyan from Aravenu in Thavittumedu village, when the incident happened around 8 pm on Wednesday.

“While nearing Thattapallam, a wild elephant intercepted their way and came towards the van. Even as the panicked passengers alighted and ran towards safety, the elephant smashed the front glass panes with its tusks,” said an official.

The elephant also targeted a car by attempting to turn it upside down. It then retreated into the forest area.
