Villagers help nab highway robbers

A four-member highway robbery gang, which targeted trucks and looted from drivers, was arrested by the Krishnagiri police on Thursday.

According to police, four persons — A Umaresh (20), M Rahul Kumar (19), S Vidhya Sagar (17) and M Irfan Ali (19) — all from villages in Hosur came on two bikes and intercepted a truck laden with stones near Hosur on the Chennai-Bengaluru NH around 5am. 

The robbers attacked its driver T Shantha Kumar, 27, with beer bottles and snatched his mobile phone. A large number of villagers, on hearing the screams of Shantha Kumar, rushed to the spot. Sensing trouble, the four men tried to flee, but the villagers gave chase and nabbed them.
