Vellore’s water woes to ease as CM opens 16 OHTs

Around 71,000 families are set to benefit with Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurating via video conferencing 16 overhead tanks in various locations in Vellore, Katpadi and Sathuvachary in Vellore corporation limits under the Central government’s AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) scheme at a total cost of Rs.234.93 crore, on Monday.

Vellore Collector B Kumaravel Pandian, accompanied by officials including Corporation Commissioner C Sankaran lit a lamp at the OHT located in Katpadi’s EB colony as soon as Stalin did the honours in Chennai. Officials also distributed sweets to the gathering after the function was over. 

Started in 2017, the scheme was plagued by various issues and moved at a snail’s pace. The huge tanks are located in various points and hence have a total pipeline coverage of slightly more than 222 kilometres within Vellore corporation limits, officials revealed.
