TIRUCHY: Amid Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's Thanjavur visit, two workers who were erecting DMK party flag polls were electrocuted on Thursday.

The banner and flagpoll work was on to welcome Udayanidhi, who is on a visit to the Delta region, to unveil late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's state and to attend the party workers' family wedding.

A group of workers were erecting 30-foot-high party flags near a marriage hall when the steel pole was thrown off when it hit the live high-tension power line. Two workers, identified as Gokul (29) and Karthi (45), both from Salem, were electrocuted.

The coworkers rushed them to the hospital, but they both succumbed on the way. Tamil University police registered a case and are investigating.
