Two die as mini lorry collides with college bus in Thiruvidaimarudhur

CHENNAI: In a tragic accident, two people died, when a mini lorry collided with a college bus near Thiruvidaimarudhur on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Sameer (25) and Karthi (31) from Kumbakonam.

On Monday morning, a bus belonging to a private college at Kallapuliyur in Kumbakonam was on its way to the college with more than 20 students onboard.

At the same time, a mini lorry carrying a load of flowers was on its way to Mayiladuthurai from Kumbakonam.

"When the mini lorry neared Govindapuram in Thiruvidaimarudhur, it lost control and rammed into the college bus," police said.

The driver and a passenger in the mini lorry died on the spot as the mini lorry was crushed in the impact and some of the students in the bus sustained injuries.

On information, the Thiruvidaimarudhur police rushed to the spot and sent the two bodies for postmortem to the government hospital.

The injured students have also been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Investigations are on.
