Two die as car hits tree in Thanjavur

Two persons died on the spot while two others sustained severe injuries when their car hit a tree in Thanjavur early on Tuesday.

Iruz Marakkayar (44), Javurudeen (44), Abdul Rahman ( 42) from Prangipettai in Cuddalore and Shief Dawood (44) from Thirumullaivasal in Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam went on a trip to Kerala two days back and were returning home.


When they were nearing Sukkumbar near Kallanai in Thanajvur around 4.30 am, Iruz Marakkayar, who was driving the car, lost his control and the car hit a palmirah tree in which Iruz Marakkayar and Sheik Dawood died on the spot while Javurudeen and Abdul Rahman sustained severe injuries.


Since it was early hours, no one was on the way and the farmers who went for their early works, heard the screaming noise and rushed to the spot and commenced the rescue operation.


On information, the Thogur police rushed to the spot and joined the rescue operation. Subsequently, the injured were rushed to Thanjavur Medical College where they were undergoing treatment. Thogur police have registered a case and are investigating.
