THOOTHUKUDI: Ajitha Agnel, a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary who had earlier attempted suicide, aggrieved over an alleged attribution of her fight over a party post to her presumed DMK links, was shifted back to the intensive care unit (ICU) on Sunday after her condition deteriorated.

Ajitha had been admitted to a private hospital since December 25 after she attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills. She was initially treated in the ICU and later moved to a private ward, after her condition improved.

However, her health deteriorated in the early hours of Sunday, prompting doctors to shift her back to the ICU, where she remains under treatment, sources said.

She was reportedly disturbed after being branded a DMK proxy on social media by sections of the TVK cadre.

Earlier, Ajitha had openly opposed the appointment of Samuel Raj as the Thoothukudi central district secretary, claiming he hadnot been actively involved in party work and that she, having workedconsistently for the party, deserved the post.

She drew public attention after blocking the vehicle of TVK president Vijay on December 23, to convey her point.
