CHENNAI: Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary TTV Dhinakaran is set to join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and participate in the campaign launch addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi near Chennai on January 23.
In the previous Lok Sabha elections, Dhinakaran was part of the NDA. However, he later withdrew from the alliance after the NDA announced AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami as its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Sharpening his attack, he had said he would never be part of the coalition if it was led by Palaniswami, and reportedly made moves to align with Vijay’s TVK. However, it did not materialise.
In this backdrop, Dhinakaran recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, where he agreed to Shah’s invitation to rejoin the alliance. But he has not officially confirmed this.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to participate in the first NDA campaign meeting to be held near Chennai on January 23.
Leaders of alliance partners in Tamil Nadu, including PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, TMC (Moopanar) leader GK Vasan, IJK TR Paarivendhar, TMMK leader John Pandian, and Puratchi Bharatham leader Poovai Jagan Moorthy, among others. Sources said Dhinakaran is also expected to participate in this meeting, putting an end to the speculations.
