RT Vijayakumar, Assistant Director, Department of Highways, (Construction and Maintenance), Kodaikanal, said the rockslide occurred at around 12.15 pm. The rockslide spot near Savarikadu is not one of the vulnerable areas identified in Kodaikanal. He said few areas such as Dum Dum Rock, BL Shed and Kodai Malai Salai have been identified as areas vulnerable to rockslides. However, the Highways Department alerted the check post personnel at Palani Ghat road and police outpost at Palani Pirivu, where barricades were put up to disallow public transport and private vehicles from plying, Vijayakumar said.
