TNGEU extends support to JACTO-GEO’s indefinite stir

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Government Employees Union (TNGEU) has extended their support to the indefinite strike called by JACTO-GEO from January 6, said the union's honorary president, K Balasubramanian, on Wednesday.

Speaking in Thanjavur, Balasubramanian said, the government employees have been fighting for the old pension scheme for the past 20 years. “We have organised a series of protests, including roadblock protests and indefinite strikes for the old pension scheme, but the government failed to pay attention to our demands,” he said.

He pointed out that the previous AIADMK government and present DMK government assured the government employees that it would scrap the new pension scheme and retain the old scheme, but to date, they have not implemented it, he said.

Balasubramanian also condemned the contract-based appointments and demanded the job regularisation of the employees in all departments.
