CHENNAI: The suggestions collected through Unga Kanava Sollunga (UKS), the month-long door-to-door survey that will conclude on February 10, may be incorporated into the State Budget, which is expected to be tabled in the second week of February, official sources said.

Sources said that once the survey concludes, the data collected will be segregated, analysed, and shared with the Finance Department, and relevant suggestions are likely to find space in the upcoming Budget proposals.

The UKS questionnaire includes two-page annexures covering 65 government schemes across nine categories, including children, women's welfare, youth and labour welfare, employment, health, persons with disabilities, housing, farmers and other sectors. Households are asked to indicate which categories and schemes are most beneficial to them.

"The survey has entered its final leg. Data collected is being uploaded daily through a dedicated mobile application developed by the government. Each enumerator covers about 30 households a day. In case of technical issues with the app, physical forms are being accepted," a survey supervisor said.

Around 55,000 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are undertaking the survey, which covers nearly 1.91 crore households across the State. Enumerators are visiting homes with a structured questionnaire seeking feedback on the benefits of existing government schemes and suggestions for new initiatives.

The government has instructed the Revenue and Public Administration departments, which are coordinating the UKS exercise, to ensure the survey is completed by February 10. The survey was launched by Chief Minister MK Stalin on January 9 at Ponneri in Tiruvallur.

The survey is being conducted at a total cost of Rs 43.52 crore, of which Rs 21 crore has been allocated to the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women (TNCDW). Each SHG member carries out the enumeration with a government-issued identity card, officials said.
