CHENNAI: The state government on Friday announced three key relaxations in the norms governing jallikattu events, providing relief to organisers and participants during the ongoing season.

In an official statement, the State government said the online registration system for jallikattu participants has been dispensed with. Instead, registration will now be handled by the respective district administrations, which are responsible for organising the events in their jurisdictions.

The government also announced a relaxation in the life insurance requirement for jallikattu tamers.

The statement said that since the state government already provides compensation in the event of the death of a participant during jallikattu, the mandatory requirement for separate life insurance coverage for tamers would be relaxed.

In another significant decision, the government said it would do away with the practice of obtaining undertakings on stamp paper from jallikattu event organisers.

Officials said this move was aimed at simplifying procedures and reducing the administrative burden on organisers.
