TN: Central Zone police begins verification of foreigners' stay

As per the Immigration and Foreigners Act, the building owners who accommodate foreign nationals should fill forms in the website of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) with form ‘C’, while the foreign students should fill the form ‘S’ with the approval from the Superintendent of Police of the respective district.

TIRUCHY: Central Zone police commenced the verification of details about the foreign nationals, including students, whether their building owners have given proper details and sought permission from the government as per the Immigration and Foreigners Act-2025.

As per the Immigration and Foreigners Act, the building owners who accommodate foreign nationals should fill forms in the website of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) with form ‘C’, while the foreign students should fill the form ‘S’ with the approval from the Superintendent of Police of the respective district.

The exclusive verification of the details across the zone found that as many as 439 foreign nationals and 86 foreign students are staying in the Tiruchy range, comprised of Tiruchy, Pudukkottai, Karur, Perambalur and Ariyalur, while in the Thanjavur range, comprised of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts, 32 foreign students are staying and they were registered by their respective educational institutions.

In all, 461 foreign nationals are staying, and among them, 380 have registered in the portal, while 81 are yet to register their information.

"The owners of hotels, lodges, guest houses, home stays, hospitals and educational institutions should register the foreign nationals within 24 hours of their stay through either form ‘C’ or form ‘S’”, said the IG (Central Zone) V Balakrishnan.

The IGP also said that those who are pending with registration should register between January 31 and February 2 otherwise, a fine of Rs 50,000 for form ‘C’ and Rs 1 lakh for form ‘S’ would be imposed, the IGP added.
