House condoles soldiers killed in J&K mishap

A condolence resolution was read out by Speaker M Appavu, who said the House was shocked and deeply pained by the accident in which 10 soldiers were killed and 11 others injured while on duty.

CHENNAI: The Assembly on Friday (January 23) paid homage to Indian Army personnel who lost their lives in a road accident in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, and also condoled the death of former Arakkonam MLA K Bhavani Karunakaran.

A condolence resolution was read out by Speaker M Appavu, who said the House was shocked and deeply pained by the accident in which 10 soldiers were killed and 11 others injured while on duty. "At a time when the nation has lost its brave sons, this House places on record its enduring gratitude for their service and sacrifice," he said.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the Speaker said the Assembly conveyed its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families and relatives of the deceased soldiers. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured and undergoing treatment. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect.

The House also mourned the passing of K Bhavani Karunakaran, who represented Arakkonam in the Assembly between 2001 and 2006. The Speaker said the Assembly acknowledged her contributions and extended its condolences to her family.
