Thousands throng Alangudi for Guru Peyarchi

Thousands of devotees thronged the Abathsagayeswarar temple, in Alangudi, in Tiruvarur district and Vashisteswarar temple, in Thittai near Thanjavur, on Thursday and performed special pujas on the occasion of ‘Guru Peyarchi.’

The time of Guru Peyarchi (transit of Jupiter) was 10.05 am, when Guru transited from Thula (Libra) Rasi (Libra) to Viruchika (Scorpio) rasi. 

Pujas were performed in various temples, including Dakshinamurthi (Guru) at Abathsagayeswarar Temple, in Alangudi, in Tiruvarur, across the central districts. Lord Guru was adorned with gold plated dress and other deities, including Lord Ganesha Abathsagayeswarar, Valli, Deivayanai and Saneeswara Bhagavan, were anointed with sandal paste (Santhanakappu). 

Devotees of various rasis (star sign), offered special poojas. As per the orders of the district Collector L Nirmal Raj, special buses were operated for the convenience of the devotees. 

Meanwhile, special poojas were performed at Vashisteswarar temple in Thittai near Thanjavur, on Thursday to mark the occasion. A large number of devotees waited in long queues for the darshan of lord Guru at the Thittai temple.
