TIRUCHY: A panchayat union primary school headmistress was suspended after a video of her dancing at a Women’s Day event linked to actor Vijay’s TVK went viral, triggering complaints and a departmental inquiry.

District Educational Officer Mathiyazhagan ordered the suspension of Krishnaveni (58), headmistress of Sankaranathar Kudikadu panchayat union primary school, on March 24, stating that her participation in the event violated the teachers' code of conduct. Officials said the inquiry found her performance to be pre-planned.

The video, filmed a few days ago at a Women’s Day celebration in Orathanadu, Thanjavur district, showed Krishnaveni dancing to a song from Vijay’s film Sivakasi, with a prominent TVK banner visible in the background. It was widely circulated on social media, prompting complaints from various quarters.

However, Krishnaveni denied attending a TVK programme, claiming she had participated in a separate event at the same venue and that the incident had been misinterpreted.

“I will submit a proper explanation after consulting my advocate,” she said.
