Tanker mows down cattle herd in Virudhunagar, 7 dead

Seven died on the spot, while several others suffered injuries. Cattle owners stopped the tanker and alerted Mukkulam police

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Seven cattle were killed and more than 10 injured after a milk tanker rammed into a herd near Mudukankulam, close to Kariapatti in Virudhunagar district, early on Friday.

The cattle belonged to Rajagopal (31), a farmer from Salai Iluppaikulam village near Kariapatti, who rears over 1,000 native cattle. On Friday morning, a milk tanker travelling at high speed allegedly lost control and crashed into the cattle.

Seven died on the spot, while several others suffered injuries. Cattle owners stopped the tanker and alerted Mukkulam police.

Police rushed to the spot and took the tanker to the police station. Further investigation is under way.
