In an election petition moved on Monday, the BJP leader has submitted that Kanimozhi had submitted incomplete and defective information in the four nominations relating to her name being enrolled in Chepauk-Triplicane legislative assembly as well as in Thoothukudi, which is a substantial defect.

Moreover, in the affidavit in Form No. 26, Kanimozhi has declared that her husband K Aravindhan, and son Adithyan were citizens of Singapore and hence failed to have a Permanent Account Number (PAN). Also, in the column for Income Tax Return for the previous five financial years, Kanimozhi has declared as not applicable, while she should have provided the National Registration Identity Card Number (NRIC), given by the Government of Singapore and the returns filed by them there, Tamilisai said.

Hence, there has been deliberate suppression of information before the returning officer which materially affected the result of the election. Tamilisai submitted along with noting that a FIR has been registered against Kanimozhi at Tiruchendur Taluk police station for distributing cash to the women folk in Umarikadu village.

Similarly, a voter from Theni has moved an election petition against Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s son OP Ravindranath Kumar who was returned from Theni Parliament Constituency. The plea challenged his election on alleged distribution of cash for votes.
