Tamil Nadu reports 6,785 +ve cases, tally almost 2 lakh

The State continued to report a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases with 6,785 testing positive on Friday taking the total tally close to 2 lakh with 1,99,749 cases.

The toll also continued to rise as 88 more deaths were reported in the State, of which 22 individuals died in private hospitals and 66 deaths were reported in government hospitals. Of the total, 82 deceased had underlying co-morbid conditions, while six of them succumbed to the virus after developing respiratory issues and COVID-19 pneumonia. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the State has reached 3,320.

While Chennai reported 1,299 cases, several other districts continued to witness a surge in the cases. Virudhunagar reported 424, Chengalpattu 419 cases, Tiruvallur 378, Kancheepuram 349 and Thoothukudi reported 313 cases in the past 24 hours.

Kanniyakumari, Ranipet, Theni and Tiruchy recorded more than 200 cases on Friday. Coimbatore, Kallakurichi, Salem, Thanjavur, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruneveli, Vellore and Villupuram also reported more than 100 cases each.

A total of 65,160 samples were tested in the past 24 hours and 6,504 patients were discharged, taking the total recoveries to 1,43,297. Tamil Nadu currently has 53,132 active cases.
