Tamil Nadu not to relax lockdown restrictions till May 3

A day after the state reported over 100 coronavirus positive cases, the Tamil Nadu government on Monday decided to continue with the existing nationwide lockdown restrictions till May 3.

A government statement said the relaxations given for essential services earlier will however continue.

The Tamil Nadu government pointed out that Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and other states too had decided to continue with the lockdown restrictions till May 3.

Tamil Nadu had set up an expert committee to look into all aspects of the issue and give its recommendations.

After reporting lower number of corona cases in the last couple of days, the state reported a drastic increase in the new infections. On Sunday, Tamil Nadu reported 105 new cases, taking the state's tally to 1,477.
