Students who applied for MBBS with bogus certificates will face criminal investigations, says TN Health Minister

CHENNAI: Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian, on Wednesday, said a criminal investigation will be initiated against 20 aspirants who have applied for the MBBS and BDS courses with bogus certificates.

The minister made the comments while inaugurating a city corporation project.

Minister Subramanian laid the foundation stone to construct a high-standard auditorium on the premises of the Corporation Boys Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam.

While talking to mediapersons after the event, the minister noted that a total of 20 students were found guilty of applying for MBBS/BDS seat with fake certificates.

Among them, nine had submitted false community certificates, seven submitted fake birth certificates, and four applied with false certificates from consulates to secure seats under the NRI category, according to the Health Minister.

"Criminal and legal actions will be initiated against those students; further, they are also barred from participating in counselling for the next three years," said Subramanian.

The process of scrutinising the applications has been completed and the final list will be published on July 25. The counselling will commence on July 30 as per the schedule of the Union government, added the minister.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has proposed the project to establish an auditorium at a cost of Rs 8.25 crore at the Kodambakkam school for the benefit of the students.
