CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday said the Tamil diaspora should preserve their identity and roots, wherever they live.
Addressing the Tamil Diaspora Day 2026 celebrations, he said the State government was working for the welfare of Tamils settled abroad, with the objective of ensuring their safety in all parts of the world.
Recalling a letter he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said Tamils living in Sri Lanka should be granted equal rights and that the Union government must take the necessary steps in this regard.
He said the Dravidian model government had implemented several schemes and achieved record growth, which formed the foundation for the next stage of development.
Referring to the Unga Kanava Solluga initiative, Stalin said the government was listening to the dreams and aspirations of the Tamil diaspora too through the scheme.
Appealing to Tamils living overseas, he said they should never forget their identity and roots. Though Tamils were spread across many countries, the mother tongue continues to unite them, he added.
We have affection for our language and race, but we have never descended into frenzy. Do not allow divisions among us. We should live without differences. Education and knowledge will protect youCM Stalin
He added that language, race, culture and identity were interlinked, and that the destruction of even one of these elements would lead to the erosion of Tamil identity itself.
“I am with you like a brother in Tamil Nadu. I wish all members of the Tamil diaspora to live safely,” he said.
Ministers TM Anbarasan, MP Saminathan, SM Nasar, R Rajendran and TRB Rajaa, along with counterparts from Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Mauritius, participated in the event.
