CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday wholeheartedly welcomed the decision of the Union Home Ministry to conduct Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) exams in all state languages.

Claiming credit for the decision of the Union government, Stalin, in a message posted on his official Twitter handle, said, "As a result of my letter to Hon @AmitShah, the Union Govt has announced that it would conduct the CAPF exams in all state languages. I wholeheartedly welcome this decision and reiterate our demand to provide Question Papers in Tamil and other state languages in all Union Govt exams."

On April 9, Stalin wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling the notification issued by CRPF to conduct its computer-based test only in English and Hindi, a blatant discrimination and denial of equality of opportunity to non-Hindi speaking states. Stalin had urged Amit Shah then to immediately revise the notification to include Tamil and other state languages.

CPM MP Su Venkatesan who has also been a vocal critic of the Hindi promotion efforts of the BJP-led Union government, also took to social media to celebrate the BJP's change of heart and said, "People who claimed that CRPF exams were never conducted in Tamil have today announced that it would be conducted in Tamil among 13 languages. It is a significant victory for linguistic equality and opposition to Hindi domination."
