Stalin files nomination papers, set to become DMK president

DMK working president MK Stalin, who is set to be elected the party president, filed his nomination for the post at Anna Arivalayam, the party headquarters, in Chennai in Tamil Nadu today.

DMK working president MK Stalin and headquarters secretary Duraimurugan will be elected party president and treasurer, respectively, unopposed on Tuesday.

Stalin and Duraimurugan filed their nominations for the posts with party organising secretary RS Bharati at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam on Sunday when the filing of nominations opened for the two posts. The duo’s election was unopposed and confirmed as none turned up to apply for the posts at 4pm, the deadline for filing of nominations, which would be scrutinised on Monday evening and handed over to party general secretary K Anbazhagan who would announce it at the general council meeting on Tuesday, August 28.

Earlier in the day, Stalin and Duraimurugan placed their nominations papers at Karunanidhi’s memorial on Marina and Gopalapuram before visiting ‘perasiriyar’ Anbazhagan who wished them well. Secretaries of all 65 party districts and leaders of various wings seconded the nomination of the two leaders and chanted “Thalaivar Stalin” (president Stalin) when the working president filed his papers.
