While the police managed to nab 73 rowdies after rounding up them in Mangadu on the outskirts of Chennai where several anti-social elements gathered to celebrate the birthday of rowdy Binu, a few including Binu escaped from the spot, perhaps to Vellore. The escaped men are wanted in several crime cases, including robbery, murder and kidnapping.

Sources also added that several noted rowdies from Vellore also participated in the party. The police are tracking their mobile phones to find their hideout, and suspect that they could have taken refuge with influential men in the district.

Police officers revealed that the number of rowdies has increased to 786 this year from 456 a year ago. They also noted that around 30 rowdies, who came out on bail, have been involved in as many as 145 crimes in the last three months.

The most notorious names among them, includes Vasur Raja, Johnny, Pakkiri and Muthumari, all residents of Vellore.
