Six TN fishermen released from Sri Lankan prison return home

The families of the fishermen requested Chief Minister Stalin to take steps for the release of the fishermen.

CHENNAI: Six fishermen from Rameshwaram who went fishing on August 27 were surrounded by the Srilankan Coast Guard in the middle of the sea, and their boats were seized for crossing the border. They were arrested and sent to prison.

The families of the fishermen requested Chief Minister Stalin to take steps for the release of the fishermen. The home ministry with the help of the Indian embassy in Sri Lanka took steps and all six were handed over to the Indian embassy on September 12.

Emergency visas were arranged and they reached the Chennai airport on Tuesday. Fisheries department arranged transport to their native places.
