K Bharathi alleged in her complaint that she met him while working as a constable in Tamil Nadu Special Police fifth battalion and he was working as a head constable in the eighth battalion in 2003.

She further claimed that Annadurai had told him that he was in love with her and she believed in his false promises and had sexual intercourse several times. The duo was allegedly living together since then in police quarters and they also got married in private ceremony in a temple in 2008.

When Bharathi asked him to marry her legally and as per society norms, he said that he was now a sub-inspector so he needs gold and cash amount as dowry. He also threatened her that he would throw acid on her face if she continues to ask him to marry her, the complainant alleged. She also claimed that he abused her in filthy language by mentioning her caste.

Recording the submissions, a special court for SC and SC (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Judge R Selvakumar found Annadurai guilty under section 417 of IPC and to pay a sum of Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the victim under section 357(3) CrPC. He also sentenced to undergo 2 years and pay a fine of Rs 10,000 under section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act and both the sentences shall run consecutively.
