Seven persons killed in three accidents across State

In three separate accidents seven persons were killed at Krishnagiri, Tirupur and Theni districts on Monday.

In the mishap at Krishnagiri, three youth travelling in a two-wheeler were run over by a government bus.


According to the police, M Someshwaran (18) from Mallapadi, V Surya (17) from Gandhi Bazaar in Bargur and S Baskar (20) from Virudachalam were riding a two wheeler, when a government bus crashed into their vehicle.


“The three persons had lost control of the two-wheeler, which collided with the bus bound to Thirupathur from Krishnagiri district. In the impact, the trio was thrown off the vehicle and suffered severe injuries on their head. They all succumbed to injuries on the spot,” police said. The bodies of the deceased persons were sent for a post mortem at Krishnagiri GH.


In another mishap, a 27-year-old youth died and seven others including a three-year-old girl suffered injuries after the omni van they were travelling rammed into a recovery vehicle at Dharapuram in Tirupur district in the early morning hours.


According to police, Rajendran (31), was running a banana leaf shop in Selvapuram had gone to Thenkasi with relatives in an omni van to attend baby shower function of his wife.


They had left Thenkasi on Sunday night after the function. While nearing Dharapuram around 5.45 am on Monday, their van collided head on with a recovery vehicle bound to Madurai. It was driven by one Vadivel (38) from Thiruparakundram. Following the mishap, Rajendran and his relatives suffered injuries and all the injured were sent to Dharapuram GH and later were shifted to CMCH for further treatment. However, one of the relatives Vijay, succumbed to injuries.


Preliminary inquiries by police revealed that the driver Vadivel has dozed off behind the wheels.


In Bodimettu, three persons were killed and 21 others suffered injuries when the van they were travelling plunged and fell into a 100-foot valley in Theni on Monday evening. Theni SP V Baskaran, when contacted, said that the victims were workers of cardamom estate. The accident occurred as it was raining and the vehicle plunged and fell into the 100-foot valley. The victims were taken to Theni GMCH. Kurangani police have filed a case following the accident. In the three cases police have registered a case and investigations are on
